Factory Photos during Construction
These photos were taken by Tartan's Mike Titgemeyer while "Rapscallion" was being built. The boat was constructed from the period of January through April, 2001 and delivered in early May. Mike's progress reports and emails sure gave us something to look forward to and made the long winter seem to go by just a little bit quicker!
This series of side-by-side comparisons show the boat as she progressed through early outfitting, in the left hand column and then after the deck was installed, in the right hand column.
Early work showing the bulkheads and cabinet bases installed. The blue coat on the deck is a protective covering.
What a difference a few weeks make! March 9th on the left, March 29th below.
What an amazing amount of work and craftsmanship that goes into the T4100! Note the small wood shop set up on the starboard settee. The difference in wood tones between the columns is due to the factory floor lighting vs. the spotlights used after the deck was installed. Interior varnishing is one of the final operations, followed up by the final fitting of the doors and drawers
One of the nice things about this method of construction and working with Tartan is that small changes can be accomodated. For instance, we were able to specify the layout of the navigation station electrical panels and have a cabinet added behind the companionway stairs.
Here's Mike's final pair of photo's as the boat neared completion. Sanding between coats of interior varnish on the left and final hull preparations for Awlgrip on the right. Keel goes on last!
The big day... "Rapscallion's" arrival at Hellier's in New London, CT.
